The Internet is full of hacks for everything from DIY cleaners to organization. If you’re like most people, you love reading these hacks, and may even put some into practice here and there.
The following household tips are sure to fall into the “must-do” category because they are simply the best ever. Period.
Make Those Stainless-Steel Appliances Shine
Stainless steel appliances are lovely. That is until someone touches them.
As beautiful as they are, they are just as hard to keep clean. Using this tip, however, will not only make them shine, but it will also help repel smudges and fingerprints, so they stay clean for longer. Add a few drops of baby oil to a folded paper towel. Rub the surface of your stainless steel appliances to remove fingerprints and smudges instantly. *Note – this method only works on brushed stainless steel.
Freshen Wooden Cutting Boards
Do you use wood cutting boards? You can remove that lingering food smell quickly and easily by rubbing the surface with half of a lemon. Let the board stand for about 30 minutes and then rinse thoroughly under cool running water.
Stop Wasting Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
There’s nothing worse than throwing out fresh fruits and vegetables that go bad before you have a chance to eat them. You can stop this waste by lining the fruit drawer in your fridge with bubble wrap. Your fruit will last twice as long in the fridge. Alternately, lining the vegetable drawer with crumpled up newspaper achieves the same thing.
Remove Chewing Gum from Almost* Anything
Chewing gum stuck to the back of your pants is enough to make anyone scream, but it’s actually easy to remove with this simple tip. Place the garment in the freezer for an hour or two. When you take it out, the gum will lift off the fabric easily using your fingers or even a spoon. *This tip works for more than just clothing as long as the item in question fits in the freezer.
Stop Dust in Its Tracks
No one likes to dust, so the next time you dust your mini blinds or your TV, add a touch of fabric softener to the cloth. This will help reduce the static that attracts dust to surfaces.
Say Goodbye to Ring Around the Collar
If you or someone you do laundry for has ring around the collar, there’s no need to fret. You can remove this unsightly stain easily using just a dab of your favorite shampoo. Not just for washing your hair anymore, shampoo is designed to remove body oils. As such, it makes a superb ring around the collar remover. Just pour a little on the stain, rub the material together to work in the shampoo and toss the garment in the next load.
